05.22.2023 Psalm 23:6 Conclusion
Psalm 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
Thought for Today
This week we look at the end of the 23rd Psalm. David concludes by looking at what it means to be a sheep under the Good Shepherd’s care through the journey of this life and beyond. To be a member of the Shepherd’s flock means that the blessing of the Shepherd will be with us. Goodness and mercy may not be characteristics we consider for sheep, but these are the things that we actually long for. We want the goodness of green pastures and quiet waters. We want to be cared for. We also want someone who will be gracious to us when we make mistakes. We need the mercy of our Good Shepherd, so we can be merciful to ourselves. We often think that trouble and judgment are chasing us. Instead, we discover that goodness and mercy are chasing us down. At the end of our journey with the Good Shepherd, He will lead us into the sheepfold where we will live in peace and safety forever. This final verse gives us comfort and hope throughout our lives.
Prayer
Good Shepherd, help me to hear the words of comfort and peace you have for me this week and be encouraged as I follow you. Amen
